Our Story
Founded by a cancer survivor and his wife, CAM Foundation exists so that no one in Kenya has to face a cancer diagnosis alone.
The founders' story
In 2012, Sam Ngugi was planning his wedding when persistent headaches, weight loss, and fever sent him to hospital. He was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, a tumour affecting the nose, head, eyes, and ears, and needed KES 600,000 for treatment, raised with the help of family, friends, and well-wishers. His wife Juliah became his caregiver through 38 radiotherapy and 8 chemotherapy sessions, researching his diet and standing by him until he was declared cancer-free.
A cancer survivor who had beaten stage-4 cancer later shared dietary advice that Sam credits with strengthening his recovery. When he passed that same advice on to a friend with breast cancer, and she too was later declared cancer-free, Sam and Juliah decided to start a foundation with friends to give other cancer patients the same hope: that a diagnosis is not a death sentence.
